Another Longtime Texas Senator is Retiring

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) _ The chairman of the Texas Senate Jurisprudence Committee says he won’t run for re-election next year.

State Sen. Chris Harris of Arlington is the longest-serving Republican in the Texas Senate.

In a statement issued Monday, he said he plans to return to his private law practice full time after his term ends in January 2013.

Harris was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1984, where he served three terms before winning a seat in the Texas Senate in 1990.
