Reorganization is two of topics at this week’s meeting of the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.
Chancellor John Sharp has recommended removing the A&M Health Science Center as a stand alone agency and make it a part of the flagship campus.
Sharp says it’s a return to when the health sciences program was originally an A&M college.
Sharp says he wants $80 million dollars in HSC research money credited to the main campus. Sharp also says it will improve research collaboration with other A&M colleges.
Pending approval by the Regents, the move also requires the OK from the state’s higher educating coordinating board and national accreditation agencies.
Sharp says health center President Nancy Dickey would report to A&M President Bowen Loftin. The chancellor also says any reduction in jobs would be up to Loftin in consultation with Dickey.
John Sharp visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
