COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M softball enters the 2016 campaign ranked No. 24 in the Preseason ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll, the Amateur Softball Association announced Tuesday.
The Aggies are coming off a 40-20 season and their 14th consecutive postseason appearance. Texas A&M returns 14 letterwinners from the 2015 squad that reached the NCAA Regional final against Oklahoma.
In the circle, the Aggies return senior pitcher Katie Marks, who posted a 14-3 record with a 3.06 ERA in 29 games. Sophomore Tori Vidales returns to the lineup after a stellar freshman season, hitting.368 with 20 homeruns and 56 RBI. Outfielder Cali Lanphear also returns after hitting .297 with nine homers and 41 RBI.
Texas A&M opens the season with No. 7 UCLA Feb. 12 and 13 at the Aggie Classic and will also face No. 1 Florida, No. 3 LSU, No. 5 Alabama, No. 6 Auburn, No. 9 Tennessee, No. 14 Georgia, No. 15 Arizona, No. 17 UCF and No. 19 Washington.
