Texas A&M held a public meeting Thursday regarding tuition plans.
With a state mandated budget reduction of five percent for both the current and following school year, Texas A&M University is having to consider increasing tuition.

Bryan ISD school board members on Monday night (June 15) unanimously approve a balanced budget for the next fiscal year that does not change their property tax rate and does not require spending money from reserves. Board member David Stasny brought up the budget taking into account, their decision two weeks ago to sell land and a building for $375,000 dollars. That’s an action Stasny considers to be important if the board decides to ask voters for a local property tax increase. A state law called a voter approved tax rate election (VATRE) allows school districts to ask BISD voters to increase the property tax rate by up to two cents without returning some of the money to the state. Blinn College’s official enrollment for the 2026 spring semester was the highest spring headcount since the pandemic. But most of the conversation at Tuesday’s (June 16) board of trustees meeting was about the continued decline on the Bryan campus. This spring’s headcount of 3,764 compares with more than 12,000 ten years ago. Trustee Randy Wells asked administrators more than once if there should be a change in the focus of Blinn’s Bryan campus. Wells also asked to have a workshop about the future of the Bryan campus. A second Blinn location in Brazos County, the RELLIS campus, also had fewer this spring compared with a year ago. The decreases in Bryan and RELLIS were more than offset by increases in three other areas. The number of dual credit high school students jumped 22 percent or by almost 600 compared with last spring. There were also more students on Blinn’s main campus in Brenham and those taking online classes. Two Brazos County jail inmates face additional charges while being held. One of the arrest reports from the sheriff’s office shows a Navasota man who was arrested Saturday night (June 13) for family violence assault with a prior conviction is also accused of hitting the arm of a detention officer who was trying to take him to a holding cell. 46 year old Timothy McGinty is accused in another arrest report of spitting at a nurse, which is also considered assaulting a public servant, while he was at a hospital on Monday (June 15) for an undisclosed reason. McGinty remains in jail as of June 17. Bonds from the June 13th arrest totals $66,000 dollars. Bond has not been set on the hospital assault. Another arrest report from the sheriff’s office says on Sunday night (June 14), a Bryan woman who has been in jail since June 2nd is accused of hitting another inmate multiple times in the face, head and back. 27 year old Ryenesha Pittman is now charged with assault causing bodily injury. That’s in addition to three warrants, one involving failing to pay fines and court costs of more than $2,100 dollars and warrants from an incident in August 2025 accusing her of criminal trespassing and failing to identify herself. Pittman remains jailed as of June 17 in lieu of bonds totaling $11,000 dollars.
