A&M Budget Forums Begin Friday

Everyone interested in the future budgets at Texas A&M University are invited to participate in a series of forums led by President R. Bowen Loftin.

The first of five gatherings is Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. in Rudder 601. Each of the forums will be dedicated to a specific area.

Friday’s focus is on graduate programs. Next Tuesday addresses undergrads, followed by facilities next Thursday, faculty on the 15th, and something called institutional functionality on the 17th. Times of each forum are different.

The President also announced the deadline for submitting the university’s strategic plan was extended until later in the fall by Chancellor Mike McKinney.

Dr. Loftin wrote that allows the formation of a strategic budget reallocation process. Information will be gathered through September, which includes the upcoming forums.

Recommendations for reallocating $21 million dollars will be formulated in October, and implementation will start in November.

Below is the list of forum topics, dates, and times.

o Improving our Graduate Program: Friday, Sept. 3, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
o Enhancing the Undergraduate Experience: Tuesday, Sept. 7, 4-5:30 p.m.
o Facilities Improvement: Thursday, Sept. 9, 10:30 a.m. to noon
o Elevating the Faculty (Teaching, Research and Service): Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1-2:30 p.m.
o Institutional Functionality: Friday, Sept. 17, 10:30 a.m.-noon

All forums will be held in Rudder 601. The forums are scheduled to be broadcast live on Campus Cable Channel 82 or in Windows Media format on TTVN Channel 20 at http://ttvn.tamu.edu/streams. You can submit questions to be answered during each forum to askthepresident@tamu.edu.
