The No. 16 Texas A&M men’s golf team closed out the first day of the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational presented by Charles Schwab in 13th place.
The Aggies completed two loops around the par-70, 7,289-yard Colonial Country Club with a 21-over 581. They scored 6-over 286 the first round and 15-over 295 the second.
Virginia, the only team to finish under par, leads heading into Tuesday’s final round. The Cavaliers sit at 1-under 559.
Freshman Shiv Parmar led the Aggies with a pair of 1-over 71 rounds. He is tied for 19th place at 2-over 142, six strokes behind co-leaders Ben James (-4) of Virginia and Connor Graham (-4) of Texas Tech. Parmar posted four birdies on the day, including three in the opening round.
Aaron Pounds is tied for 26th place at 3-over 143. He penciled in four birdies in an opening round 2-over 72 and followed it up with two birdies in a 1-over 71 afternoon circuit.
All five Aggies fired a 71 or 72 in the morning round. In addition to Parmar, Jaime Montojo logged a 1-over 71. Wheaton Ennis and Jacob Sosa checked in at 2-over.
