Aggies Struggle on Day One at SEC Championships

HOOVER, Ala. – No. 24 Texas A&M had a tough time on the first day of the SEC Women’s Golf Championships at the Greystone Golf & Country Club – Founders Course on Friday as the Aggies finished round one in 13th place at 30-over par.

No. 15 LSU leads the championship at 15-over followed by No. 2 Alabama (+16) and the quartet of No. 18 Georgia, No. 34 Kentucky, Mississippi State and No. 40 South Carolina which is tied for third at 18-over par. No. 8 Vanderbilt (+21) currently sits in seventh proceed by No. 32 Tennessee (+24), Missouri (+24) and No. 6 Arkansas (+25) to round out the top-10. No. 7 Florida (+27), Mississippi (+29), A&M and No. 43 Auburn (+33) complete the leaderboard.

“We did not handle ourselves very well today,” head coach Trelle McCombs said. “We made mistakes and did not recover from them very well. As a whole, the course beat the field today. The rain we had last night along with the toughness of the course really took its toll.”

Sarah Beth Davis leads the Aggie charge at six-over par in a tie for 27th place followed by the trio of Katerina Ruzickova, Susy Grunden and Natalie Reeves who are all tied for 47th at eight-over par. Chelsea Mocio rounds out the A&M contingent at 10-over par in a tie for 60th place.

The championship resumes at 10:00 a.m. (CT) with the Aggies returning to the links at 10:32 a.m. (CT) from hole No. 10 joined by Auburn for Saturday’s round. Live scoring of the event can be found at GolfStat.com.
