COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies were selected No. 12 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Preseason Ranking the NSCAA announced on Tuesday.
Texas A&M polled second among SEC schools, trailing only No. 9 Florida. The Aggies are the top-ranked team from the Lone Star State, placing ahead of No. 13 Baylor and No. 24 Texas Tech.
The Aggies’ opponent in the season-opener, Duke, was ranked No. 7 in the preseason poll. The Maroon and White host the Blue Devils at Ellis Field on Friday, August 23.
Texas A&M returns 14 letterwinners, including seven starters, from the 2012 campaign. The list of returnees includes NSCAA All-America Third Team selection Meghan Streight as well as All-SEC performers Jordan Day, Shea Groom and Annie Kunz.
The Aggies posted an historic season in 2012, finishing with a 19-5-1 overall record and winning the SEC Western Division title with a 10-2-1 league ledger. A&M’s 19 wins was one shy of the school record and the Aggies posted a school-record 15 shutouts on the year. The Aggies finished the 2012 campaign ranked No. 14 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire rankings.
