Aggies Claim Shriners Classic Crown

HOUSTON, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies registered a 3-2 win over the Houston Cougars Sunday afternoon at Minute Maid Park to finish a perfect weekend at the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic. It marked the second time in the last three trips that the Maroon & White went 3-0 at the talent-laden tournament.

Aggie starting pitcher Jonathan Childress worked 3.0 hitless innings before leaving with an injury. He issued just one walk while striking out three.

Chandler Jozwiak (1-0) was the first out of the bullpen and picked up the win. He allowed one unearned run in 2.2 innings, scattering three hits and two walks while striking out three. Bryce Millerthrew 2.0 innings, allowing one run on one hit and one walk while striking out three. Joseph Menefee struck out the only batter he faced, ending the eighth. Christian Roa picked up his first career save, retiring all three of the batters he faced.

Offensively, Texas A&M (11-2) was paced by Bryce Blaum, who reached base three times, including a solo home run in the fifth. Braden Shewmake went 2-for-5 with a run and Logan Foster was 2-for-4 with an RBI double.

The Aggies return to action Tuesday when they host the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in a 6:32 p.m. contest on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

SCORING SUMMARY
T4Braden Shewmake laced a single through the right side of the infield to start the inning and, with one out, he moved to second on a wild pitch. Logan Foster laced a double down the leftfield line to plate Shewmake. A&M 1, UH 0.

T5| With one out, Bryce Blaum deposited a 3-1 offering into the Crawford Boxes in leftfield for his third home run of the season. A&M 2, UH 0.

B6| With one out, Jared Triolo reached on a fielding error by Ty Coleman at third base. A gap double to left-center by Joe Davis and a walk by Blake way loaded the bases. The Maroon & White were unable to get the last out on an attempted 6-4-3 double play, allowing Triolo to score. A&M 2, UH 1.

T8Chandler Morris drew leadoff walk, Foster singled to right-center and Mikey Hoehner worked a nine-pitch base on balls to fill the bags with Ags. Morris scored on a double play groundout by Aaron WaltersA&M 3, UH 1.

B8| With one out, Triolo drew a walk and scored when Davis hit a wall-banger to leftfield for a double. A&M 3, UH 2.
