In the first Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown of the year, Texas A&M’s Trinity Buchanan delivered the game-winning goal in the 68th minute of a 1-0 shutout against Texas at Ellis Field.
Texas A&M (4-5-3, 1-4-0 SEC) dictated terms of the match statistically, holding a 14-9 advantage in shots and 4-1 in corner kicks. As part of a defensive lockdown, the Aggies owned a 7-1 shots-on-goal margin. Texas goalkeeper Kendall Williams made six saves to keep the match closer than the run of play.
The Maroon & White wasted no time asserting their offensive dominance, outshooting Texas (3-8-1, 1-4-0 SEC) 5–1 in the first half. Texas A&M launched the only shots-on-goal of the opening stanza with four.
The Aggies’ back-seven including Bella Yakel, Riley Crooks, Hattie Patterson, Mia Scranton, Kat Campbell, Bella James, Lucy Landherr and Emma Hoang notched their third shutout of the season. They prevented the Longhorns from getting a shot on goal until the 86th minute. Goalkeeper Maysen Veronda earned her first clean sheet of the season and the second of her career.
Texas A&M improved to 11-1 against the Longhorns at Ellis Field. The all-time series advantage continued trending toward the Maroon & White, moving to 22-7-2.
The Aggies claimed first point in the Lone Star Showdown series giving them a 1-0 edge over the Longhorns.
The hard-nose match resulted in eight fouls for Texas A&M and 14 for Texas. Two yellow cards were issued to Texas late in the second half.
