The No. 2 Texas A&M women’s tennis team fell to the No. 10 Ohio State Buckeyes, 4-2, in Monday’s ITA National Team Indoor Championship semifinal action at Combe Tennis Center.
Texas A&M (8-2) made quick work of Ohio State (5-0) in doubles to claim the opening point. On court 1, Mia Kupres/Lucciana Perez defeated No. 13 Hephzibah Oluwadare/Teah Chavez, 6-3. On court 3, Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev/Audrey Spencer jumped out early before Daria Smetannikov/Lexington Reed rallied to clinch the doubles point, 6-4. The No. 55 pairing of Flora Johnson/Luciana Perry was nearing match point over Violeta Martinez/Anna Perelman on court 2 when the point was decided.
The Aggies earned the opening singles point on court 2 as No. 41 Perez cruised past No. 3 Perry, 6-2, 6-1. Ohio State answered on court 1, where No. 14 Teah Chavez defeated No. 46 Mia Kupres, 6-2, 6-4, before extending the lead with a 6-1, 6-4 victory by Spencer over Perelman on court 6. The Buckeyes added another point on court 5 as Oluwadare topped No. 96 Smetannikov, 6-3, 6-4.
The match was clinched on court 4, where No. 68 Nao Nishino earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Martinez to secure the final. Reed was ahead of No. 91 Cisse-Ignatiev 7-5, 5-4, on court 3 when play concluded.
