News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
The No. 7 women’s golf team extended its lead to nine strokes after round two of The Fin at the Freestone Lake & Golf Club Tuesday.
“We were solid,” Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said. “I think we got a little sloppy towards the end but overall had a great round. An under-par team round out here is pretty hard to come by. I am proud of the adjustments that we made and talked about. I think we learned more today than we did yesterday. I am excited to see how they apply that to tomorrow.”
Texas A&M carried a four-shot lead into the start of Tuesday’s action and ballooned that to nine by the end of the round. The Aggies went 1-under 287 as a team in round two and were even-par 576 thru 36 holes. Oklahoma State (+9) was in second with Mississippi State (+10) right behind them in third.
Vanessa Borovilos posted a 1-under 71 and was tied for second with a 3-under 141 thru two rounds. Borovilos was one of three golfers in the field to have a 36-hole score below par. Mississippi State’s Alicia Bellendir held the top spot at 8-under 136.
Louise Reau jumped 20 spots on the individual leaderboard after firing a 2-under 70 and holding a piece of 11th. Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio and Emerie Schartz shot 2-over 74 and 4-over 76, respectively, on Tuesday and were tied for seventh.
Natalie Yen posted an even-par day, jumping into a tie for 20th while Sky Sudberry, who was competing as an individual, also went even-par and had a share of 16th.
The Aggies return to the course Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live stats for The Fin can be found at scoreboard.clippd.com.
