The No. 10 Texas A&M women’s basketball team could not hold off Kelsey Mitchell and No. 11 Ohio State, as the Buckeyes rallied to a 95-80 win over the Aggies in the South Point Shootout at the South Point Arena.
The Aggies (5-1) jumped out to a 19-4 lead, and led 38-36 at the half. Ohio State (4-2) used a 27-13 third quarter, and led by as many as 15 in the game.
Mitchell led the Buckeyes with 42 points, the most by an A&M opponent since Fannie Allen of Pepperdine scored 43 on Dec. 8, 1980.
Texas A&M was led by Courtney Williams who scored 21, her second straight game with at least that many. She was joined in double figures by Courtney Walker (19) and Jordan Jones (12), marking the 16th time in their careers that all three have reached double figures in the same game. The Aggies are 11-5 in those games.
The Aggies return to action on Dec. 4 to take on Hawai’i in Laie, Hawai’i to start the Tom Weston Invitational. A&M returns home to Reed Arena on Dec. 7 to host SMU at 11 a.m. in Elementary School Day.
