Aggie Track & Field Athletes Earn SEC Weekly Honors

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

Texas A&M track & field’s Ja’Qualon Scott and Peter Narumbe were named SEC Men’s Runner of the Week and SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week, respectively, following standout performances at the PNC Lenny Lyles invitational, the league announced Tuesday.

Scott secured his second-straight 60m hurdles title this season in Louisville, as he dominated the field to win the event in a blistering time of 7.52. The seniors mark ranks second in the nation this season, first in the SEC and was just shy of his own school record in the event (7.51).

Narumbe’s stellar freshman campaign continued at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, as he won his fourth-consecutive race after claiming the 800m crown. He crossed the line in 1:46.13 which ranks as the second-fastest mark in NCAA history by a freshman, standing behind only Texas A&M all-time great Donavan Brazier (1:45.93). Narumbe’s time also jumped him up from No. 7 to no. 4 on Texas A&M’s all-time performers list.

The Aggies return home to host the Charlie Thomas Invitational, Feb. 6-7, at the R.A. ‘Murray’ Fasken ’38 Indoor Track & Field facility.
