Aggie Softball Send Friars to Confession in 9-1 Run-Rule Win

News release from Texas A&M Athletics: 

The No. 11 Texas A&M softball team scored nine unanswered runs to run-rule Providence, 9-1, in six innings Friday night at Davis Diamond.

After yielding a run to Providence (1-1) in the top of the second, Texas A&M (3-0) answered with three runs on three hits in the bottom half. The Aggies added single runs in the third and fourth before pushing across three more in the fifth for an 8-1 lead.

Scout Lovell reached on a bloop to center field that resulted in a Friar error and advanced to second with no outs in the sixth. After a hit-by-pitch, Micaela Wark singled up the middle to score Lovell and end the game.

Tallen Edwards led the offense, going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Wark finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, including the game-winning hit, and added a sacrifice fly in the third. DeeDee Baldwin drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice.

Kate Munnerlyn earned the win in her first career start at Davis Diamond, striking out a career-high eight while allowing one run on two hits and one walk in 4.0 innings. Sidne Peters worked the final two innings, striking out four and allowing two hits. The duo combined for 12 strikeouts and threw 62 strikes on 82 total pitches for a 75.6 strike percentage.
