Aggie Soccer Edged out by Missouri

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

The Texas A&M soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to the Missouri Tigers in Thursday evening’s action at Walton Stadium.

The Aggies raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first 6:49 as Ireland Churchill recorded her fourth career brace. Missouri chipped away with a strike in the 24th minute and tied the match with four seconds left in the stanza by converting a corner kick.

Churchill’s two strikes marked the second-fastest an Aggie notched two goals in a game behind Ashlee Pistorius’s pair in the first six minutes of a 2007 NCAA Tournament win against SFA. She moved into a tie for sixth place for most goals by a Texas A&M freshman with 11. Churchill became the first Aggie to reach double digits in the goals column since Liz Keester in 2013.

The shots were even in the first half, 6-6, with Missouri (5-9-2, 1-7-1 SEC) owning a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Tigers struck fast in the second half, netting the go-ahead goal 59 seconds into the stanza with a header off a free kick.

The final numbers had Texas A&M (4-11-1, 0-8-1 SEC) ahead on shots, 10-9, but Missouri held advantages in shots-on-goal (5-4) and corner kicks (7-5).
