COLLEGE STATION, Texas – In a season in which Texas A&M has been bestowed a treasure trove of awards for athletic and academic excellence, the Aggies were honored for their character and integrity, earning the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award Bronze Award.
The Aggies were the only NCAA Division I Championship participant to be recognized with an ethics and sportsmanship award.
The Bronze Award is granted to any team that accumulated no more than 10 cards on the season. Texas A&M was joined by Louisiana Tech, Northern Colorado, Northern Kentucky, Southeastern Louisiana, Tennessee-Martin and Wisconsin-Milwaukee in earning the Bronze Award.
The Aggies were one of just 10 NCAA Division I women’s squads to earn one of the NSCAA Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Awards. No Division I team went the entire season without accumulating any cards, thus no Gold Award was granted. Fordham, Gardner-Webb and William & Mary earned the Silver Award (no red cards and no more than five yellow cards).
In all, 125 men’s or women’s soccer teams across the three NCAA divisions, the NAIA and junior college ranks earned an ethics and sportsmanship award, including eight Gold, 82 Silver and 35 Bronze.
Texas A&M experienced a historic campaign in 2014, setting a school record for wins on the way to its first-ever College Cup appearance. The Maroon and White went 22-3-2 on the season and won the SEC Double with a regular-season crown and tournament title. The Aggies became the first team to earn the SEC Double in back-to-back seasons since Florida in 2001. They also became the first SEC team since Florida in 2001 to advance to the College Cup.
