COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Soccer announced its spring slate on Friday with six playing dates. The schedule includes four events at Ellis Field.
“This is spring is a special opportunity for us,” Texas A &M head coach G Guerrieri said. “We have three outstanding newcomers on campus as early enrollees and we have an outstanding class of rising seniors that can help develop the rookies into players that will make an immediate impact next fall.”
The spring session kicks off on Saturday, February 8 as the Aggies will play an intrasquad Maroon-White Match under the lights at Ellis Field beginning at 7 pm.
Texas A&M currently has two matches scheduled against the Houston Dash, the newest member of the National Women’s Soccer League. On Saturday, March 22, the teams will play a 10 am match at Houston Amateur Sports Park. On Wednesday, April 2, the Aggies host the Dash for an 8 pm match at Ellis Field.
The Aggies host a pair matches against teams from the Women’s Premier Soccer League. On Sunday, March 2 they’ll host Houston South Select in a 4 pm match and on Thursday, April 17 the Maroon and White host the Houston Aces in an 8 pm tilt.
Texas A&M is slated to play two matches at Rice on Saturday, April 5, including a 2 pm contest against LSU and a 5 pm match against the host Owls.
“The spring semester is an important time of the year for the Aggie Soccer program,” Guerrieri said. “This is the time of year when we really have a great opportunity to concentrate on the technical, physical, and tactical development of our individual players. The championship trophies we’ve picked up in the fall were actually won because of the developmental work we performed with our student-athletes in our spring season.”
The Aggies finished the 2013 season ranked No. 8 in the NSCAA Coaches Poll. A&M posted an 18-5-2 record for the year, claimed their first-ever SEC regular-season title with a 9-2-0 league ledger and captured an SEC Tournament crown. The Maroon and White appeared in their 19th consecutive NCAA Division I Championship, advanced to the Second Round for the 16th consecutive year and appeared in the Sweet 16 for the 12th time in program history.
Texas A&M returns 18 letterwinners from the 2013 season and returnees account for 54 of the Aggies’ 56 goals last season.
