Aggie Men’s Tennis Tops Tennessee

News release from Texas A&M Athletics: 

The No. 10 Texas A&M men’s tennis team topped the Tennessee Volunteers, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at the Mitchell Tennis Center.

Sophomore Theo Papamalamis clinched the victory after defeating No. 106 Jose Garcia in straight sets on court 1, 6-4, 6-3.

The Aggies (15-7, 8-3 SEC) grabbed two consecutive doubles courts to win the doubles point early on. The No. 40 tandem of Alex Frusina and Kholo Montsi defeated Shion Itsusaki and Alejandro Moreno, 6-1, on court 2. Papamalamis and freshman Kriish Tyagi secured the point in their debut as a pair, taking down Garcia and Jan Kobierski, 6-2.

Frusina continued his control in singles, downing Kobierski in quick fashion on court 3, 6-1, 6-2. The Volunteers (10-14, 1-10 SEC) grabbed their sole point of the day on court 5.

Junior Lathan Skrobarcek outlasted Ethan Muza in a second set tiebreaker to put the Aggies one away from the victory, 6-4, 7-6(3). Papamalamis would go on to clinch shortly after.

The Maroon & White head on the road to face the Auburn Tigers Thursday, April 2, at 3 p.m.
