Aggie Men’s Golf’s Wheaton Ennis Wins Individual Title at Fighting Irish Classic

Wheaton Ennis captured medalist honors at the Fighting Irish Classic, closing with a 3-under 67 to finish at 7-under 203, as Texas A&M men’s golf placed second in the team standings on Monday at Warren Golf Course.

The Aggies entered the final round in a three-way tie for second and posted an even-par 280, their best team round of the week, to finish alone in second at 2-over 842. California won the team title at 1-over 841, one stroke ahead of A&M, while host Notre Dame was one stroke behind the Aggies in third at 3-over 843.

Ennis began the day tied for second and moved to the top of the leaderboard with a 3-under 32 on the front nine, making birdies on Nos. 2, 3 and 7. He added a birdie on the par-4 13th to close out a 67. Ennis broke par in all three rounds, carding scores of 67, 69 and 67.

Aaron Pounds finished with back-to-back 1-under 69s, moving up seven spots on the final day to tie for 21st at 2-over 212. He opened his final round with a birdie on the first hole and added consecutive birdies on Nos. 15 and 16.

Shiv Parmar carded three straight 1-over 71s and tied for 25th at 3-over 213. Landon Ashcraft tied for 29th at 5-over 215 after a final-round 73 that included three straight birdies on Nos. 2-4. Jack Usner finished tied for 69th at 17-over 227. Competing as an individual, Owen Bolles closed with a 73 and tied for 76th at 22-over 232.

The Aggies return to action Oct. 19-20 at the Abilene Christian Intercollegiate at Halbert National Golf Course in Granbury, Texas.
