Aggie Men’s Golf to Host Aggie Invitational

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M men’s golf team will host the 16th Aggie Invitational April 12-13 at Traditions Club, head coach Brian Kortan announced Thursday.

“It’s always great to host other teams,” Kortan said. “We’re a great university and we have the means to host a great golf tournament. It’s the only time all year when we have home field advantage. And it means a whole lot to our players. It’s their time to compete in Aggieland in front of the 12th Man. We like to defend our home turf and play here in front of family and friends.”

Texas A&M has won the event on five occasions, including 2010, ’11, ’14, ’21 and ’22. Walker Lee is the only two-time individual medalist at the tournament with wins in 2018 and ’22. In 2024 Jaime Montojo joined the list of Aggie winners which includes Lee, Sam Bennett (2021), Jordan Russell (2010) and Chandler Phillips (2018).

Ol’ Sarge’s charges first hosted the Aggie Invitational in 2005. It has been played through completion in 13 of the last 15 years. The 2020 event was canceled due to Covid. In 2019, play was halted midway through the first round and inclement weather over the next two days wiped out the tournament.

Tradition Club’s championship course designed by Jack Nicklaus has played host to numerous high-level tournaments, including the NCAA Championships in 2011, NCAA Men’s Regionals in 2010, ’18 and ’22, and NCAA Women’s Regionals in 2016 and ’24. It is slated to host an NCAA Men’s Regional in 2026.

The Aggies open the 2024-25 campaign September 7-8 when they travel to Sammamish, Washington, for the Sahalee Players Championship.
