Texas A&M men’s golf completed the first two rounds of the Fighting Irish Classic on Sunday and sits in a three-way tie for second at 2-over 562 after 36 holes at Warren Golf Course. The final round is set for Monday.
The Aggies opened with an even-par 280 to sit third after the first round, then posted a 2-over 282 in the second round on the par-70, 7,023-yard layout. California leads at even-par 560. A&M is tied with Illinois and host Notre Dame, two strokes back of the Golden Bears and three ahead of fifth-place Georgia Southern at 5-over 565.
Wheaton Ennis leads the Aggies and is tied for second individually at 4-under 136. Ennis opened with a 3-under 67, playing the back nine in 3-under 32 with birdies on three of his final four holes. He followed with a 1-under 69 that included birdies on the par-5 fifth, the par-3 ninth and the par-5 17th.
Shiv Parmar and Landon Ashcraft are tied for 21st at 2-over 142. Parmar posted back-to-back 1-over 71s, with three front-nine birdies in the second round, including one on the opening hole. Ashcraft opened with a 1-under 69 that featured back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 before carding a 73 in the second round.
Aaron Pounds rebounded from an opening 74 with a 1-under 69 in the second round, making four birdies over a five-hole stretch from Nos. 3-7. He is tied for 28th at 3-over 143. Jack Usner rounds out the lineup at 11-over 151 (73-78), tied for 70th. Competing as an individual, Owen Bolles improved by 11 strokes from his first round to his second, posting an 85 and a 74 for a 159.
Texas A&M will play the final 18 holes on Monday.
