UPDATE: Bryan City Council To Consider Tax Abatements For A Data Center On The RELLIS Campus That Is Already Under Construction

A special meeting of the Bryan city council that is scheduled May 5th to consider property tax abatements involves a building on the RELLIS campus that is already under construction. Mayor pro tem James Edge says there is a new owner of the building that he says is close to being finished. Original story April 8, 2026: The Bryan city council will be holding a special meeting May 5th to consider giving property tax breaks to a proposed data center on the RELLIS campus. A city spokesman says no other information can be released at this time about what may be offered to an unidentified company to build and equip a $298 million dollar facility, when it might be built, or the number of employees. A spokesman at the Texas A&M system, which owns the RELLIS campus, tells WTAW News that there is nothing to share at this time. There have been no public notices from Brazos County or Bryan ISD about those governing bodies considering similar proposals.

College Station’s mayor adds his best wishes as Bryan city manager and former mayor Andrew Nelson undergoes medical treatment for a mass in his brain. John Nichols said at the end of Thursday night’s (April 9) city council meeting “I would certainly say on behalf of this council and the city of College Station, we’re keeping city manager and former mayor Andrew Nelson in our prayers”, adding “the family is certainly important to all of us and we’re standing behind them. I want everybody to remember Mr. Nelson in your prayers, thoughts, whatever your faith guides you in. Certainly in a difficult position having just taken over the role of city manager, that’s not easy to find your way through that.” Nelson started as city manager in November 2025 after serving as mayor from 2016 to 2022. Nelson began as city manager in November of 2025, following his service as mayor from 2016 to 2022. College Station Police Arrests A Daughter For Assaulting A Mother And Two Officers And A Man For Threatening An Officer During A Traffic Stop

Two College Station police officers received medical treatment for minor injuries after they were assaulted by a 17 year old woman who had assaulted her mother on a bus leaving town for Houston. CSPD arrest reports say Cadence Masterpool of Houston slapped her mother’s face in the back of the bus, causing the mother to move to the front of the bus. That led the bus driver to tell the daughter to come to the front and apologize to her mother. At the front of the bus, the daughter is accused of hitting her mother with her cell phone, resulting in an open cut that covered the mother’s face with blood. Arrest reports do not say if the mother received any medical treatment. Masterpool is also charged with kicking, scratching, and biting one CSPD officer and kicking, scratching, and spitting on a second officer. Masterpool, who was arrested Monday (April 6), remains jailed as of April 10th in lieu of bonds totaling $46,000 dollars. An 18 year old Bryan man returns to jail for the fourth time since April of 2025. College Station police arrest reports say Dequarius Wilson threatened an officer after he was caught with marijuana during a traffic stop. Wilson, who was charged with retaliation and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, is out of jail after posting bonds totaling $18,000 dollars. Online records show Wilson is awaiting criminal trials in Brazos County district court, one for felony theft and misdemeanor evading arrest that took place in April 2025 and the other for misdemeanor possession of marijuana that took place in January 2026.
