Aggie Men’s 4X400 Relay Earns Share of SEC Runner of the Week Honor

BIRMINGHAM – A world-leading effort of 3:03.23, which is the eighth fastest performance on the all-time world list, earned a share of the SEC Runner of the Week honors for the Texas A&M relay quartet of Gregory Coleman, Bralon Taplin, Shavez Hart and Deon Lendore.

Competing in the Razorback Invitational the Aggie foursome recorded the fastest time ever in the month of January while producing the second fastest collegiate time in history, trailing only the collegiate record of 3:03.20 that Texas A&M set in winning the 2014 SEC Championship race.

Taplin ran a split of 44.78 on the second leg of the relay, which is the fourth fastest ever by a collegian indoors with the seventh fastest performance and on the all-time world list he equals the seventh best performer with the 10th best performance. Taplin is just the third Aggie to supply a sub 45 second split indoors, joining Lendore (44.50, 44.57, 44.63) and Demetrius Pinder (44.94).

The splits for the other three legs of the A&M relay included Coleman (47.15), Shavez Hart (46.17) and Lendore (45.13). The Aggie crew shared the SEC Runner of the Week with Florida’s Najee Glass, who posted a world-leading time of 45.34 seconds in the 400 meters at the Razorback Invitational.

In its final home meet of the season, held this Friday and Saturday, the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational will feature a pentathlon and heptathlon while the Aggies plays host to Clemson, Baylor, Houston, Rice, TCU, Texas State and UTEP. Updated national rankings this week have the A&M men and women both ranked No. 4. In the men’s rankings Baylor is 15th, Houston 21st and TCU 23rd. Clemson is 24th in the women’s rankings.
