Kahuku, Hawai’I – The Texas A&M men’s golf team moved up two spots at the John Burns Intercollegiate on Thursday to finish the second round in third place.

The Aggies (294-295=589) ended the second round seven shots over par to bring their two-day total to 13-over par. No. 1 California (284-282=566) held on to its lead with a current score of 10-under par, followed by BYU (+6) and A&M. In fourth place is No. 5 New Mexico (+14) followed by Arizona (+17), Colorado State (+20), UNLV (+20), Hawai’i-Hilo (+21), Washington State (+23), Hawai’i (+27), UTEP (+32), Nevada (+37), Denver (+41), Hawai’i-B (+45), Utah (+51) and BYU-Hawai’i (+53).

“We did a much better job of keeping the ball in play today and the guys battled some really tough conditions,” Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. “We tee’d off in a torrential rain storm and played the first two or three holes in heavy rain. It was really windy all afternoon with tough conditions but we battled through that really well and were able to move up the leaderboard a little bit. We are pretty far out of having a chance to winthe golf tournament, but we can still have a great showing with a great final round tomorrow.”

Once again leading the way for the Aggies was senior Cameron Peck (70-75=145), who is currently in eighth place individually with a two-round total of one-over par. Junior Johannes Veerman (73-74=147) and sophomore Greg Yates (75-73=148) followed closely behind Peck with respective scores of three-over and four-over par. Veerman is tied for ninth individually while Yates sits in a tie for 15th. Senior Drew Evans (77-73=150) has recorded a total score of six-over par while sophomore Ty Dunlap (76-78=154) completed the A&M contingency with a two-day total of 10-over par.

“We really want to continue to get better during tomorrow’s round,” Higgins added. “We need to be really committed to our shots off the tee and continue to handle the wind well with our approach shots. We’ve already reached one goal and that’s the play in the final group. Tomorrow we’re just looking to post a low final round and see how high we can move up.”

The third and final round of the tournament will begin Friday morning at 11:30 a.m. (CT) when the Aggies will be paired with California, BYU and New Mexico.
