Aggie Expressway Open House Thursday in Navasota

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is holding an open house Thursday for proposed route of the second leg of the Aggie Expressway.

Bob Colwell of the TxDOT district office in Bryan says there are six proposals and one recommendation for the new Highway 249 in Grimes County between Todd Mission and Plantersville that will be a toll road.

Thursday’s open house is at the Grimes County Expo Center from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. That will be followed by a presentation from TxDOT staff.

A public hearing would be held later this year along with undergoing an environmental study, of which those results are expected towards he end of 2014. That would be followed by acquiring right of way with plans for construction to start in 2015.

Cowell says the recommended alignment would require the purchase of 400 acres of land and would not relocate any residents.
