What Was The Aggie Expressway Changes To A Two Lane Highway

Last summer, construction was supposed to have started on what was nicknamed the Aggie Expressway.

But the Texas Department of Transportation has made major changes to a ten mile extension of highway 249 in Grimes County that will connect Bryan/College Station with northwest Houston.

The TxDOT Bryan district office has announced a toll road with four interchanges, passing lanes, and frontage roads is all going away.

The new two lane highway will still be built west of Plantersville and Todd Mission.

And TxDOT will have enough right of way to make it a divided four lane at some point.

No homes or other structures would have to be moved. And there are adjustments in the highway alignment to avoid impacting wetlands and other sensitive environmental areas.

The latest changes are the subject of a TxDOT open house on January 25 at the Navasota junior high school cafeteria from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m.
