Aggie baseball practice starts

After receiving a high national ranking in three other major collegiate baseball preseason polls, the Texas A&M baseball team received another accolade Thursday afternoon when the Aggies were selected No. 13 in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.

The Aggies received 371 points from the selection board which is made up of 31 coaches at Division I institutions. Texas A&M joined just two other Big 12 institutions to appear in the poll as Oklahoma checked in at No. 6 and Texas at No. 7.

Texas A&M has now been selected as one of the top teams entering the 2011 season by Collegiate Baseball (No. 8), USA Today/ESPN (No. 13), Yahoo Sports (No. 20) and Baseball America (No. 21).

The squad is seeking its school-record fifth-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and will get a chance to put its preseason rankings on the line when it opens the season by hosting Le Moyne in a three-game series at Olsen Field beginning on Feb. 18.
