No. 10 Texas A&M claimed the series opener over LSU, 10-4, Friday night from Alex Box Stadium behind a pair of homers from Jorian Wilson.
Every batter in the Maroon & White’s starting lineup reached base safely, combining for 12 hits and eight walks. Gavin Grahovac, Chris Hacopian, Terrence Kiel II and Wilson each registered multi-hit performances.
The Aggies (29-7, 10-5) scratched across the first run of the game in the third inning on an RBI groundout from Caden Sorrell, scoring Bear Harrison.
The Tigers (23-16, 6-10) matched the score in the fourth inning on a solo homer.
Texas A&M reclaimed the lead with two outs in the top of the fifth behind an RBI single from Hacopian. Jake Duer lined a single up the middle to score two, giving the Aggies a 4-1 advantage.
LSU added a run in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single, making it a 4-2 game. In the top of the sixth, Wilson blasted an opposite-field two run homer to extend the Maroon & White’s edge. Grahovac added to the tally with a solo shot, putting the Aggies ahead by five runs. Ol’ Sarge’s charges went up, 8-2, in the eighth inning on a bases-loaded wild pitch.
The home team responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth, only to be answered by Wilson’s second two-run shot of the game to seal the final score at 10-4. The Hallettsville, Texas, native’s ninth homer of the season traveled 412 feet to the opposite field and left the bat at 106 miles per hour.
Shane Sdao was tabbed the starter and worked 4.2 innings of two-run ball. The lefty allowed six hits and punched out four batters. Gavin Lyons (6-0) earned his fourth win in conference play after tossing 2.1 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits, while striking out four. Ethan Darden closed the door, pitching a clean 2.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts.
