Advisory To Those Who Renew Vehicle Registrations in APRIL

News release from Brazos County Tax Assessor-Collector Kristy Roe:

County Tax Offices across the state were notified by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles that approximately 320,000 of the two million registration renewal notices for April, were printed with incorrect inspection fees. Under new requirements, the state’s portion of the vehicle inspection is now collected at the time of registration renewal.

The incorrect renewal notices list the inspection fee of $0.00 when a fee should have been printed. While a majority of Brazos County vehicles should have a fee of $7.50, the fee is determined by the type of inspection required for that particular vehicle. The error only affects a small portion of April renewals. Affected drivers will receive a correct renewal form accompanied by a notice from TxDMV stating the following:

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Dear Customer: Please use the enclosed registration renewal notice when renewing your vehicle registration. The notice we sent to you earlier this month was printed with an incorrect fee and should be discarded. You are receiving a corrected renewal notice that displays the fee amount that is actually owed. You may disregard this notice if you have already received your registration sticker. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have questions, please contact 1-888-DMV-GOTX (1-888-368-4689).

To avoid confusion and possible rejection of renewals submitted by mail, Brazos County residents with vehicles that have registration expiring in April are encouraged to review their renewal forms carefully to see if they have received one of the incorrect reminders. If residents have questions about whether their renewal is correct, they should contact the Brazos County Tax Office at 979-361-4470, or email the office at taxoffice@brazoscountytx.gov.
