A New Bryan ISD Strategic Planning Committee Starts Meeting That Could Lead To A Bond Election

The College Station city council supports a Brazos County health district proposal to begin inspecting public pools that includes those located at hotels, apartment complexes, and those controlled by homeowners associations. The health district’s Holly Ulbrich says the inspections “aren’t out there to bring the hammer down on people. We’re mainly out there to educate them and get them into compliance.” The health district’s Kate Jackson says state law requires the city to pass an ordinance giving the health district permission to inspect an estimated 250 pools in College Station. The College Station council will be given a recommended ordinance after the city attorney’s office meets with health district administrators. Councilman David Wright, who was part of a unanimous vote, said “I for one am kind of alarmed that our public pools are not being tested.” The College Station council vote comes the month after four members of the Bryan council chose not to hear the health district proposal. College Station police gives a shoutout on its Facebook page to citizens who called 9-1-1 last Friday (March 28) to report there was a woman at the Walmart store who was stabbed in the hand and struck in the eye with a closed fist. CSPD arrest reports say the woman’s boyfriend of 16 years stabbed and assaulted her over a period of several hours in their apartment. Then he forced her to walk with him to Walmart to get cleaning supplies, leaving behind two toddler aged children. The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. 36 year old Louis Anthony Hernandez was charged with family violence aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Hernandez remains jailed as of March 31 in lieu of bonds totaling $86,000 dollars. Arrest reports also say this is the ninth incident involving this couple since January. A Leon County man is held in the Brazos County jail without bond on a warrant charging him with sexual assault. That’s after College Station police arrested 50 year old Tyson Henson for sexual assault of a child. CSPD’s arrest report says the arrest started with the child’s mother checking the child’s cell phone and finding inappropriate text messages between the child and Henson. As of March 31, Henson remains held in lieu of bonds on the Brazos County charges totaling $300,000 dollars.
