Bryan City Manager And Former Mayor Andrew Nelson Is Undergoing Medical Treatment

Bryan city manager and former mayor Andrew Nelson is undergoing medical treatment for a mass in his brain. Mayor Bobby Gutierrez is quoted in a news release in saying “Bryan is standing with Andrew and his family in prayer, in hope and in unwavering support.” Nelson’s family has asked for privacy, and city operations continue without interruption. Nelson began as city manager in November of 2025, following his service as mayor from 2016 to 2022. Bryan ISD School Board Sees The Proposed Timeline To Replace The Merrill Green Stadium Fieldhouse And Video Board

The first major construction project in a $397 million dollar bond issue passed by voters in Bryan ISD last November will be replacing the Merrill Green stadium fieldhouse and video board. BISD board members were told during Monday night’s meeting (April 6) by the district’s construction manager, Bobby Griffin, that the nearly $36 million dollar project will take the rest of this year to design. The old fieldhouse will be razed to make room for the new fieldhouse, which is not projected to open until May 2028. Alternative locations will be used for fieldhouse functions and the stadium will remain open. The projected timeline calls for the three year old video board, which is attached to the current fieldhouse, will be removed in December and demolition of the current fieldhouse could start next February. Road Rage Investigation Results In A Disorderly Conduct Arrest

A traffic stop on Rudder Freeway outside the Bryan Broadcasting offices on Tuesday (April 7) resulted in an arrest on a charge of disorderly conduct by displaying a firearm. The incident that was originally described as a road rage incident began on Highway 6 between Navasota and College Station. The arrest report from the Brazos County sheriff’s office says the 21 year old from College Station says he had “a pretty good idea” why he was pulled over. The 21 year old accuses another driver, identified as a 55 year old local man, of initiating the incident by “aggressively” driving in front of him in Navasota. The 21 year old said after he passed the 55 year old, the 55 year old continued his aggressive driving. The 21 year old said that scared him, so he got a handgun out of the glove compartment and displayed it but did not point the gun at the other driver. The 55 year old told the deputy that the 21 year old was following him too closely so he tapped his brakes. That led the 21 year old to make a pass and start driving in both lanes. The 55 year old said he passed the 21 year old near the Westward Ho exit when the 21 year old moved into the inside lane. During that pass is when the 55 year old said the 21 year old pointed the gun at him. The 21 year old, Luke Gorena of College Station, is out of jail after posting a $3,000 dollar bond. Original story April 7, 2026: Outside the office windows at Bryan Broadcasting Tuesday morning (April 7), we saw on the northbound lanes of the freeway a traffic stop involving five patrol SUV’s from College Station police and one from the Brazos County sheriff’s office. A CSPD spokesman tells WTAW News that the driver of the SUV that was stopped is under investigation for flashing a gun in a road rage incident. The traffic stop, located in the Big 6 construction zone, reduced traffic to one lane. Video of the traffic stop was captured by Candy 95’s Ryan Star.
