A former College Station mayor pitches the city council on the new Brazos Valley YMCA operating a future city owned recreation center.

Karl Mooney, who chairs the local YMCA board, was among the public speakers during the council’s May 18th update on a recreation center feasibility study.

In addition to sharing the benefits for YMCA members, Mooney also updated the council on current operations without a permanent home.

Mooney brought up the YMCA hosting 11 weeks of summer camps at Allen Academy in Bryan.

The only direction the council gave after more than one hour of discussion, was to work towards a bond election for a recreation center in November 2027.
