Allen, Kirk Receive Weekly Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Texas A&M sophomore Kyle Allen was one of eight quarterbacks named “Stars of the Week” by the Manning Award on Monday after establishing career highs in passing yards and total offense in the Aggies’ overtime win over Arkansas last Saturday.

Allen, from Scottsdale, Ariz., posted career highs in total offense (363 yards) and passing yards (358) while completing 21-of-28 passes (75.0 percent which also matched his single game career high) for two touchdowns with no interceptions while leading the Aggies to a win in their conference opener. His QB rating was an impressive 90.1 in the game. The win pushed the Aggies to 4-0 overall for a second straight year, which hasn’t happened since 1940 and 1941.

With the game in the balance, Allen moved the Aggies 85 yards in five plays to get A&M within two points and then connected with junior WR Josh Reynolds on the two-point conversion to knot the score 21-21. On the second play of overtime, Allen connected with freshman WR Christian Kirk on a 20-yard TD pass that provided the winning margin in the 28-21 victory over the Hogs.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas A&M freshman Christian Kirk‘s contributions to the No. 14 Aggies’ overtime victory over Arkansas last Saturday were recognized when the wide receiver/return specialist earned weekly honors from the Southeastern Conference on Monday.

Kirk, from Scottsdale, Ariz., was named Special Teams Player of the Week after he posted game-high and career-high totals in all-purpose yardage and receiving yards while helping the Aggies log a SEC-opening 28-21 win over the rival Razorbacks at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Kirk reeled in a pair of touchdown catches, including a 20-yarder in the first overtime period to provide the winning margin. For the game, the versatile Kirk piled up 174 receiving yards on eight catches (also a career best), 77 yards on four kickoff returns and had one carry for five yards.

It was Kirk’s third 100-yard receiving game in just his fourth career game with the Aggies. Kirk has already matched the freshman season school record of three 100-yard games set originally by Uzoma Nwachukwu in 2009 and matched by Mike Evans in 2012. Kirk also had 106 receiving yards against Arizona State and 137 yards against Nevada.

It was the second time this season that Kirk has earned SEC weekly honors after taking Freshman of the Week kudos after his game one heroics in the Aggies’ win over then-No. 15 Arizona State.
