The College Station city council is given an update on a consultant’s continuing study of a possible recreation center. The consultant’s first phase report included project planning, a needs assessment, and a market analysis. City staff brought up three sites where the city owns land and buildings. They are Wolf Pen Creek Park, Central Park, and the former Macy’s store. The developer of College Station’s Midtown district, James Murr, pointed out that a past study chose his neighborhood to build a YMCA. Potential sites is among the recommendations the consultant has yet to make. Other recommendations that will come from the second phase of the consultant’s study are space program options, rough capital costs, facility design options, and an operations budget.
