A unanimous vote at this week’s Bryan city council to move ahead with replacing a long-closed pool did not come without conflict.
Rafael Pena, who made the motion to award the construction contract for the million dollar pool at Sadie Thomas Park, wasn’t happy that it won’t open this year.
After the council learned there was going to be a delay in a free review of all four city pools from Houston contractors, a consultant was hired in November and approval was given in January to replace the Sadie Thomas pool and make repairs to the others.
Chuck Konderla took issue with Pena taking credit for the pool replacement and Pena’s statement that any time was wasted.
The price tag does not include demolition of the current Sadie Thomas pool, which was closed seven years ago, and the bathhouse.
