The City of College Station is testing out a new way to recycle.
The Single Stream Recycling pilot program has been implemented in the Emerald Forest neighborhood and is being evaluated.
Three hundred residents received a bin, which they can dispose all recyclable items along with cardboard and paperboard materials. The items will be sorted at the recycling center.
College Station Mayor Nancy Berry said the hope is more people will recycle if they can put everything in one bin, and not have to worry about sorting their items.
She said another benefit to Single Stream is keeping more waste out of the landfill.
Apartment complexes would not be included in the program. The city would continue franchising private companies for apartment and commercial recycling options.
