The family of Atkinson Toyota dealerships has grown to south Dallas.
Paul Atkinson has announced the purchase of what is now called Atkinson Toyota South Dallas, which is located off Interstate 20 at the Hampton Road exit.
Atkinson says he was contacted about acquiring what was an underperforming location, similar to the circumstances when the Bryan dealership was purchased in 1999.
Atkinson says he was contacted at 6:30 p.m. on a Monday night and the commitment to buy the store was made three days later on a Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
The South Dallas location will do some of the same philanthropic projects as in Bryan/College Station and Madisonville. Atkinson says he has been in contact with area schools about establishing the “Pays to Stay” program, where a high school senior with perfect attendance will win a new car.
Marketing plans includes visits by “Repo Joe”, who is seen at the other locations.
Atkinson says the South Dallas dealership will undergo a $6 to $7 million dollar expansion.
Some employees have transferred, including the promotion of Darren Day as general manager.
Atkinson says they’re communicating to acquire other dealerships as he looks to have a total of five to seven locations in the next few years.
