Oregon State Hires Wisconsin’s Gary Andersen

Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen has stepped down to become the head coach at Oregon State.

Andersen, Wisconsin’s coach for the past two seasons, informed the team of his decision on Wednesday afternoon, the school announced.

Wisconsin (10-3) is scheduled to play in the Outback Bowl against Auburn (8-4) on Jan. 1. It was not immediately clear who would coach the Badgers in the bowl game. The team scheduled a news conference for later Wednesday.

Oregon State did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Andersen replaces Mike Riley, who left the Pac-12’s Beavers to accept the head coaching job at Nebraska after the dismissal of Bo Pelini. Oregon State finished this season 5-7 and had two conference wins, but one came at home against then-No. 7 Arizona State.
