Lubbock County Deputy Killed in Crash

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) _ A Lubbock County sheriff’s deputy is dead and two people have been injured in a traffic accident.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says Deputy D. Robert Harvey died early Sunday when his patrol vehicle collided with a pickup truck. DPS says the driver of the truck was trying to turn onto a county road when the vehicles collided head-on.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported in its online edition Sunday that Harvey, 29, was on his way to a call about a fight when the wreck occurred. He had been with the sheriff’s office for about seven years.

The driver of the pickup truck and a passenger had serious injuries, the DPS said.
