The suspect in last month’s armed robbery of a Bryan bank while wearing a dress is also accused of hiding contraband in a dangerous and delicate location.
When Bryan Police arrived at the Brazos County Jail with Brandon Hutchins this week, the prisoner became unresponsive. While his breathing was normal and he had strong pulse, an ambulance was called and Hutchins was taken to the St. Joseph’s emergency room.
Hutchins remained unresponsive, even when a catheter was inserted. But when a nurse got out a rectal thermometer, that got Hutchins attention. Officers noted the prisoner sat straight up in his bed with his eyes wide open and his entire body tensed up.
The nurse detected a stoppage and told officers an object needed to be removed. Hutchins locked his legs together and had to be forcibly pried open. The stoppage was a clear plastic baggy containing one and a half grams of cocaine. X-rays were taken and nothing else was seen inside Hutchins’ body.
The prisoner returned to his unresponsive position, leaving officers to place him a wheelchair to be rolled out of the hospital. Back at the county jail, Hutchins was placed in an isolation cell where officers said he resumed being verbally abusive.
That was Hutchins’ disposition on the drive from Hearne to Bryan, where officers said they were impressed with his ability while in handcuffs and ankle restraints to manuever in the backseat with his head on the floorboard and his feet in the air.
