AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ The first bill signed into law from the 2009 Texas legislative session involves hurricane recovery.
Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday signed the bill reducing the financial impact to electric customers for rebuilding and restoring utility service after hurricanes.
The measure by Sen. Tommy Williams of The Woodlands and Rep. Senfronia Thompson of Houston allows utilities to issue low-cost bonds to recover restoration costs.
Perry says the need for measure became clear after September’s Hurricane Ike and the plan will help Texas prepare for future storms.
