Bryan Police responding to a disturbance Monday morning dealt with a man accused of driving a minivan at a high rate of speed with three children inside. Officer Kelley McKethan says they were on another call when the van approached at a high rate of speed. The children, ages 1, 4, and 9, were riding on the floor of minivan and were not restrained. The 1 year old had been bleeding from her mouth and the 9 year old had difficulty breathing and said his back hurt. The driver, 33 year old Jose Octavio Diaz of Bryan, was also checked out in the emergency room then cleared. Diaz was arrested on multiple charges, including child endangerment, violating a protection order, and evading arrest. According to the arrest report, Diaz drove away from officers with the tires of his van smoking, The van was found on top of an embankment at Groesbeck and Peace Streets, resting against a chain link fence with smoke coming out of the engine compartment. It is the 14th time Diaz has been arrested since 1999.

A Bryan man rummaging through his car trunk at midnight Monday ran away from police. That led to an arrest on multiple drug charges. Officer Kelley McKethan says this started in a neighborhood north of Villa Maria and South College, which has had a recent string of burglaries. 29 year old Daryl Lockridge Jr. of Bryan is accused of having in his car more than one liter of PCP that was in five containers, including a can of brake fluid and a plastic jug labeled for tea. Officers also found more than 20 packages of K2 scattered from the car through the route of the chase along with a rock of methamphetamine. The street value of the drugs was estimated at more than five thousand dollars. Also seized was a BB gun, scales, and five cell phones.

And Bryan Police arrested a man who has 43 active suspensions on his drivers license. 34 year old William Edwards of Bryan was driving away from a disturbance when he was pulled over early Sunday morning. After confirming the driving record that included convictions last year and the year before that, Edwards was arrested on an enhanced charge of driving with an invalid license. He spent three hours in jail before being released on bond.
