Passing of Bryan’s Ronnie Jackson

After battling lung cancer and other health issues since March of 2012, Ronnie Jackson, Bryan’s Neighborhood and Youth Services Manager, has passed away.

Jackson served the City of Bryan since 1995 in that position, and is the only person to hold that post.

Jackson reached his ten-month survival milestone in January, and said at that time that he was touched and amazed by people’s loving acts of kindness during his journey with cancer, and that the experience brought his faith to a whole new level.

Jackson’s public service was recognized with a nomination for the national Jefferson Public Service Award in 2010.

Jackson was recognized by Chamber of Commerce board chairman Ben Downs at today’s Community Impact Awards luncheon.

Comments from Ben Downs.

Deputy City Manager Hugh Walker started his job about the same time as Ronnie Jackson in 1995. Walker says Ronnie worked behind the scenes to connect many people and groups as a one-man department.

Funeral services will be on Friday, 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in College Station.

WTAW’s Bill Oliver visits with Hugh Walker.
