Bombers Fall to Generals but Extend Best Opening Record Ever

Bryan-College Station, TX (June 27, 2013) –

The Bombers extend their best ever opening record to 21-4, but suffer their first home loss Thursday night against the Victoria Generals.

Brazos Valley held the lead early on when designated hitter Hunter Melton hit a single that extended to a double on an error, allowing first baseman G.R. Hinsley to come home for the first run of the night. The Generals stepped out in both the top of the fifth and sixth, scoring two runs in each inning. In the bottom of the sixth the Bombers temporarily hit their stride again when left fielder Brett Kauten reached on a single then came home to double the Bombers total runs for the night. After six the Generals led the Bombers 4-2.

The Generals tacked another one on the board in the top of the seventh, which Brazos Valley mirrored in the bottom of the eighth. Right fielder Patrick McLendon started things off with a double up the third baseline, followed by a single to center by Kauten. Catcher Jake Henson then came to the plate and hit a single of his own past the shortstop to bring in McLendon, earning the Bombers third run of the night. Unfortunately, Victoria was able to seal the deal in the top of the ninth with four more runs coming across the plate. The game ended with a score of 9-3.

Friday night is Firework Friday at American Momentum Bank ballpark, this week featuring ROGER CLEMENS. Game time is 7:05pm against the Victoria Generals.
