A bank robbery in Bryan that included a bomb threat also closed streets in an eastside neighborhood after a suspicious package was found in the getaway vehicle.

Bryan police officer Kelley McKethan says a homeless man, 61 year old James Kyle Graham entered the First Victoria Bank on East 29th shortly before noon Friday.

Witnesses told police Graham displayed a firearm, made a verbal bomb threat to a bank employee, and left with an undisclosed amount of money.

McKethan says no one was injured.

DPS trooper Jimmy Morgan says a highway patrolman spotted a truck matching the description of the getaway vehicle.

Morgan says after the suspect’s truck ran a red light, the driver pulled into the parking lot of a convenience store at Boonville and Copperfield and stopped.

At that time, a Bryan policeman arrived and joined the trooper in taking Graham into custody without incident.

McKethan says members of the College Station police bomb squad located in Graham’s truck, some items that resembled a bomb. McKethan says it was determined that it was not a real bomb and what was found had nothing that could be detonated.

The search of Graham’s truck and inspecting what was found took more than three hours. During that period, access to Copperfield was blocked at Tiffany Park, Williamsburg, Woodcrest, and Pendleton.
