The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has selected Texas A&M’s Elston Turner as its Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week. The USBWA’s weekly honor is presented by Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook and will be handed out each Tuesday through Feb. 19 this season. As the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, Turner was nominated for the weekly award, which was chosen by a representative of the USBWA board of directors from a list of Division I conference players of the week.
Texas A&M sophomore Ford McLiney (Kansas City, Mo.) was named Southeastern Conference Men’s Diver of the Week on Tuesday after sweeping the springboard diving events against Auburn last week. McLiney, who transferred to A&M from Florida State, won the one- and three-meter dives against No. 11 Auburn on Saturday, but the Aggies fell to the Tigers in their home opener, 189-111.
In winning the 60 and 200 meters during the Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational, Prezel Hardy Jr. was selected as the SEC Men’s Runner of the Week.Hardy first claimed the 60 meters in 6.64 seconds, just missing the meet record of 6.63, and currently shares the SEC lead in the event and is the second fastest collegian and is currently second fastest in the world.
Former A&M Punter Steve O’Neal class of 68’ and All American will be inducted into the American Football Kicking Hall of Fame tomorrow in Augusta Ga.
A&M Hockey hit the road at won 2 of 3 in Colorado beating No. 9 Denver and No. 11 Colorado bumping them up to No. 12 in Dev. II West by the American Collegiate Hockey Assoc.
