A Bryan man was killed Friday afternoon after his truck was struck by a southbound train on Spur 231 near Old Hearne Road, just inside Robertson County.
Trooper Jimmy Morgan with the State Highway Patrol says investigators are still trying to determine why 44-year-old Reginald Thomas’ pickup was on the tracks.
Morgan says as far as they know, the train was sounding its horn, and this particular crossing has a yield sign, but no guard arms.
He says they continue to interview witnesses, and it’s possible that Thomas might have been trying to back off the tracks, or that the pickup might have stalled from a gasoline problem.
Reports indicate that Thomas was not wearing a seat belt.
