College Station ISD School Board Fires Two Teachers For “Contract Abandonment”
Personnel actions at February’s College Station ISD board meeting included firing two teachers. Superintendent Tim Harkrider said both teachers abandoned their contracts. Harkrider said both teachers “did not give us any grounds to hire anybody else. They surprised campus administration and walked out the door.” The superintendent confirmed neither person got really sick or had a spouse move out of town. Harkrider said this marked a philosophical change in CSISD, adding is the first time they have asked the board to fire teachers before the end of the school year. New Brazos County Commissioners Initiate Discussion On Multiple Items In One Meeting
The February 18th meeting of the Brazos County commission meeting included unanimous votes on four items that included comments and questions from newly elected commissioners Fred Brown and Bentley Nettles. Commissioner Brown chuckled about the request to issue a Diners Club credit card to a county employee, saying he had not seen that card since the 1980’s. Purchasing agent Charles Wendt said the card was still being accepted and that they are looking into other credit card companies. Commissioner Nettles was told the county did not have the ability to garnish the wages of an undisclosed number of retired county employees who did not reimburse the county for health insurance premiums totaling a combined $783 dollars. Commissioner Brown, who is a retired car dealership owner, explained that the dealer that the commission approved for a new pickup truck to replace one that was totaled, had contracts with all state agencies and was able to make money on selling law enforcement vehicles at cost by the light bars it installed on those vehicles. And commissioner Brown asked the purchasing agent for an explanation about why a 2020 contract was still in effect. This was in reference to the commission approving pest control services returning to a building that was slated for demolition but will continue to be occupied. Mother And Stepfather Arrested Nine Months After A Nine Year Old Shoots His Four Year Old Stepbrother
College Station police make two arrests Tuesday (February 25) after a four year old boy was shot in May 2024 by his nine year old stepbrother. The victim’s mother, who now lives in Anderson, and the stepfather, who lives in Navasota, were charged with hiding the gun. The stepfather was also charged with stealing the gun that was used in the shooting and possessing the gun as a convicted felon. CSPD arrest reports say the four year old was treated at hospitals in Bryan and Houston for a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The arrest reports do not say who has custody of the children. WTAW News is not releasing the names of the parents or posting their jail booking photos because that would reveal the identity of the children.
