SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger says the city should plant 250,000 trees and adopt environmentally stricter building codes as part of a sweeping new sustainable-energy plan.
In his final State of the City address Wednesday, Hardberger outlined a proposal to create a $100 million venture capital fund to bankroll green technologies. He said the efforts would establish San Antonio as a “a flagship, third Industrial Revolution city.”
The San Antonio Express-News reported that the plan is dubbed “Mission Verde.”
It was introduced as Hardberger approaches end of his second and final term as mayor of the nation’s ninth-largest city. He is set to leave office June 1.
